Mk IA Spitfire, Flown by Steuart Bader.
Group Captain Sir Douglas Robert Steuart Bader CBE, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar, FRAeS, DL (21 February 1910 – 5 September 1982) was credited with 20 aerial victories, 4 shared victories, 6 probables, one shared probable, and 11 enemy aircraft damaged. In 1931, Bader had lost both his legs in a flying accident but fought his way back to active service to become one of the RAF's leading aces of the war.
The Spitfire was the most famous fighter aircraft of World War II. It was the only British fighter plane to be in continuous production throughout the war. Just over 20,000 Spitfires were built in total. The plane remained in production and active service until 1955. The Spitfires used in the film Battle of Britain were almost invisible to the camera, as they were so well camouflaged. They had to be filmed against clouds so that they could be seen.
